We use the verb to be:

• with age (con l’età)

Examples: Mary is eight years old.       

                    Paul and John are thirteen. 

• with an adjective (con l’aggettivo)

Examples: The car is fast.   

                    I am tall.  

                   The cat isn’t black. 

• with this and that

Examples: This car is blue.    

                  That is beautiful!  

                  This house isn’t old.

• with nationality (con la nazionalità)

Examples: Pedro is Spanish.

                  We are from Italy. 

                    I am not American.    

• with jobs (con i mestieri):

Examples: William and Harry are doctors.

                   My mum is a teacher.  

                    They aren’t architects.
